EAST TENNESSEE ATTORNEY PLEADS GUILTY TO TAX EVASION

[Knoxville, Tenn] -Thomas E. Cowan, Jr., 65, of Elizabethton, Tenn, entered a plea of guilty on December 4, 2009, to a charge of tax evasion in violation of Title 26, United States Code, Section 7201. The guilty plea was accepted by Judge Karen Caldwell of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Kentucky. Sentencing has been set for April 12, 2010, at 1:00 p.m., in United States District Court in Knoxville.

Cowan was indicted on March 17, 2009, by a federal grand jury sitting in Knoxville, Tennessee. This indictment was the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service, Criminal Investigation Division. Frank M. Dale, Jr., Assistant United States Attorney represented the United States.
